Rick Wells - Insurance Consultant (MBE)
Hailing from the Waikato, Rick grew up on the family farm near Te Aroha. With a keen interest and talent for sport Rick moved to Auckland at 17 to pursue a career in swimming. Rick’s dedication and hard work paid off and he ended up representing New Zealand in three sports – swimming, surf lifesaving and triathlon. Competing in the 1982 Commonwealth Games, Rick became NZ record holder and title holder in swimming.
He then went on to represent NZ in Surf Lifesaving securing several titles and in 1987 Rick became the world champion triathlete for both the short and long course events.
And then in 1990 Rick won the triathlon at the Auckland commonwealth games. In 1993 Rick was honoured by the Queen and awarded the MBE for services to sport.
Ricks success has been in some part due to his attention to fitness and wellbeing, both in himself and others. This led him towards a career in insurance where he can put his skills and interest to good use for your benefit.
Rick competed in the 2017 World Masters Surf Life Saving and Open Water Events achieving 3 Golds and 1 Silver.
On top of all the action, Rick has owned swimming coaching businesses since 1997 and is operating adult swimming fitness groups daily at the Newmarket Olympic Pool, Auckland.
